Success stories

Elizabeth is a fabulous, knowledgeable, down to earth person! I was so unsure of how I'd feel after my first appointment, but Nourish's ability to match you with your ideal nutritionist for your specific needs is so accurate it was an almost perfect pairing!

It is not like any other place I have tried before. I feel seen and heard by my dietician. I am not just a number on the scale. My dietician takes into consideration so many things that are not even related to my weight which I had never even realized myself were contributing to my health. She has been kind and supportive. I couldn't be happier.

My daughter Julia had been going to a psychiatrist to deal with her disordered eating, and the topic of getting a dietitian had come up. I was completely desperate to help her in any way I could, so I jumped at the opportunity and was connected with Nourish by her psychiatrist.
Immediately, the dietitian connected on a teenage-level with my daughter, which I think has been crucial for my daughter’s recovery. She was incredibly kind and really engaged with Julia, which I know can be difficult at times with teenagers. Our dietitian went above and beyond to 'meet Julia where she was at’ - going so far as to adjust appointment times to align with Julia's school schedule, and being flexible with any goals or strategies she set with Julia so that Julia could accomplish them while still getting to experience a ‘normal’ teenage life. I could finally start to see Julia turn a corner, and seeing the hope in her eyes finally return was incredible for me to watch.
I have appreciated how much I am kept in the loop by Julia's dietitian. We finally have someone helping both of us deal with the nutrition challenges that she is constantly facing. My daughter went from eating basically nothing to having 3 meals and 4 snacks a day consistently. So much of her pain is gone, and that is all thanks to our dietitian. I highly recommend anyone looking for a guiding and supportive figure in their child’s life get a Nourish dietitian.

Finding a dietitian with Medicare
You can use the Medicare provider search to identify dietitians in your area who accept your Medicare health insurance plan. To be easily connected with a top-rate Medicare dietitian, consider Nourish. We accept Medicare insurance and have a network of highly qualified nutrition professionals who will work with you virtually to meet your health goals.
There are some restrictions on what Medicare covers regarding nutrition care. Medicare Part B only covers dietitian services for individuals who have diabetes or kidney disease with a referral from a physician. Medicare also covers nutrition therapy for post-kidney transplant patients within three years of receiving the transplant.
In addition, the visit must be conducted by a registered dietitian (RD) or registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN). Nutrition counseling conducted by a dietitian is known as medical nutrition therapy (MNT).
Covered services include the initial nutrition consultation as well as follow-up visits in both individual and group settings. Medicare covers up to three hours of nutrition counseling in the first year of establishing care with a dietitian. Up to two hours per year are covered in the following years. You may qualify for additional hours if your doctor requests an exception due to a change in your condition.
Video visit coverage with Medicare
Historically, Medicare only covered video visits, or telemedicine, for patients who lived in rural areas without easy access to certain in-person healthcare services. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, some temporary changes to this policy have been made.
Currently, and through the end of 2024, Medicare covers virtual dietitian visits for patients with diabetes or kidney disease. The appointments may be conducted through a secure video system or by phone. While the previous policy required the patient to be present at a local rural clinic to complete their video call, they can now be completed at the person’s home.
It is still being determined how the policy will change after 2024, making it important to verify your benefits before seeking virtual care. Telehealth benefits also vary by which Medicare plan you have. Medicare Advantage Plans typically provide more coverage for video visits than Original Medicare.
Understanding your options with Medicare
If you have diabetes or kidney disease, Medicare will cover your online dietitian appointment at 100% since it is considered a preventative service. This coverage is the same for in-person and virtual dietitian visits at this time, though it is subject to change after 2024. If you’re seeking nutrition therapy and don’t have one of these diagnoses, you have a couple of options.
Some people have a secondary insurance plan in addition to Medicare, and these plans tend to cover a broader range of diagnoses for nutrition services. If you don’t have insurance coverage for medical nutrition therapy through Medicare, you may be able to get it through your secondary insurance.
If you are paying for your dietitian appointment out-of-pocket, the cost will vary depending on your location and the provider's credentials. On average, you can expect to pay between $100 and $200 for an initial consultation with a dietitian. Fees may be greater if you live in a high-cost-of-living area.
With Nourish, we work with you to maximize your insurance coverage, with most of our patients paying $0 out-of-pocket. If you have a diagnosis other than diabetes or kidney disease, a video visit with your dietitian costs just $145, regardless of your location.
