How can I find a top-rated dietitian that accepts Cigna insurance?
You can use the Cigna healthcare provider directory to search for a registered dietitian covered by your insurance plan. However, coverage is also dependent on why you are seeking care.
Cigna covers medical nutrition therapy (MNT), or nutrition counseling conducted by a registered dietitian for a specific health condition, as a preventative service. This includes MNT targeting risk factors for chronic diseases influenced by diet.
For example, adults with risk factors for heart disease, like high cholesterol, or people seeking weight management care qualify for nutrition counseling under Cigna. Typically, Cigna will cover up to three hours of nutrition counseling per year for preventative reasons, though your doctor may be able to extend this depending on your diagnosis.
To simplify the process, consider trying Nourish. All you need to get started is to answer a few simple questions about your insurance and health concerns. We’ll connect you with a top-rate dietitian who accepts Cigna and provides high-quality virtual nutrition counseling.
Are video visits with a Dietitian online covered by Cigna?
Virtual care, also known as telehealth, is when you meet with your healthcare provider online via phone or video rather than in person. Cigna covers virtual visits for both specialist and preventative care, meaning online dietitian appointments are covered.
Remember that your virtual care coverage may vary depending on your Cigna plan and where you live. It’s important to verify your plan benefits before your first dietitian appointment.
How can I book an appointment online with a Cigna Dietitian?
Before booking an online dietitian appointment, it’s important to select a provider who meets your needs. This includes finding the right fit for your diagnosis or health concerns, but it also means choosing a nutrition professional who is licensed to provide virtual care in your state.
Telehealth laws differ in each state, meaning some providers cannot conduct video visits with out-of-state patients. When using Cigna’s provider search, the results do not specify provider specialties or whether virtual visits are available, making it challenging to find the right fit.
How much does an appointment online with a Cigna Dietitian cost?
Since nutrition therapy is considered a preventative service, Cigna covers it at 100% when you see an in-network provider. This means you won’t incur a copayment or coinsurance and don’t have to meet your annual deductible to receive the service.
Specialist visits for certain conditions or health concerns aren’t considered preventative care under Cigna. If you are seeking dietitian services for one of these concerns, you may need to check your individual Cigna insurance plan for coverage details.
Sometimes, you may need to pay out-of-pocket when your diagnosis is not covered for nutrition therapy. Nationwide, you can expect to pay an average of $150 for a consultation with a registered dietitian. Some appointments cost upwards of $250, depending on location and specialty.
